Capital CreditsAs one of the cooperative member-owners, you not only get excellent service at the lowest possible cost, you also share in any Cooperative margins (or profits). Your share of these margins is called "capital credits." At the end of each year these net margins are allocated to each member on the basis of the amount of energy used during that year. The amount of your capital credit allocations for the prior year is printed on either your April or May electric bill in the current year. For example, the 2009 captial credit allocation amount was printed on either your April or May, 2010 bill. Capital credit checks are disbursed to our members each year during our Annual Meeting which is held on the first Saturday in October. Our Board of Directors determine who will receive checks and that decision varies from year to year. In 2009, Surry-Yadkin EMC allocated capital credit checks to our members who had electric service with us from 1990-2000. The board approved to allocate 35% of 1990 and then 2% of the years 1991-2000. If you as a member were to receive a check and did not attend our meeting, your check was mailed to you the following week. Each year a large percentage of our capital credit checks are returned due to insufficient or changed mailing addresses. If you had electric service between the years 1990-2000 and did not receive a check, please call our office at (336) 356-8241 and we will research this information for you. |
